TITLE OF POSITION: Graphic Designer
LOCATION: NSWCPD Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: This position is contingent on award notification.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide graphics support for local community outreach events.
Develop products that encourage and facilitate interactions between client employees and local communities during school visits and student tours of research facilities. Primary emphasis will be placed on STEM related initiatives designed to raise public awareness and increase student interest in Navy Science and Technology programs.
Support web management, social media and website improvement coordination, including content development.
Provide content management support to client for public websites, social media accounts and intranet. All postings must comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Provide photographic support of distinct events each year, which may require local travel, portrait shots and capture of technology development, testing and demonstrations co-located with client partners. Photography must be captured in a journalistic style in digital format using equipment and software provided by the Government.
Initiate illustrated concepts through design, draft and final stages. Responsible for determining arrangement, size, font, style, and related aesthetic concepts, by submitting rough layout for approval, preparing finished layouts with the ability to prepare final layouts by marking and pasting up finished copy and art for publication and printing.
Complete projects that require coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
Create graphic design and layout, provide creative services skills, while being customer focused, showing flexibility and attention to detail, and deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must Haves:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Arts or Visual Arts/Communications from an accredited institution, or mass communications specialist with Defense Information School (DINFOS) accreditation preferred, or at least (4) four years of active duty experience as a photo journalist.
Three (3) years of experience within the last seven (7) years in graphic design.
Experience with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Experience with Adobe Cloud Creative Suite to create content to support media releases.
Possess customer relations skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior level client officials and assist them in the process of communicating the NSWCPD message.
Possess professional writing skills and verbal communications skills.
Have the ability to effectively organize and track tasks.
